Matthew Best

Matthew Best, MD, Sports Medicine fellow

Matthew Best attended Florida Atlantic University where he was a member of the men’s basketball team and graduated Magna Cum Laude. He attended medical school at the University of Miami where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and was awarded the Benton-Stockman Scholarship and the Dean’s Fund Scholarship. Dr. Best completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD where he was awarded the Frank L. Coulson Jr. Award for Clinical Excellence and the Paul S. Lietman Global Health Scholarship for his outreach work in Kumasi, Ghana. While a resident at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Best completed an AO Trauma Fellowship in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Outside of work, Dr. Best enjoys traveling and trying new restaurants with his wife, Carroll.


Ryan Nixon

Ryan Nixon, MD, Sports Medicine fellow

Ryan Nixon grew up in Fort Wayne, IN. He attended Indiana University and graduated with high academic distinction with degrees in Biology and Neuroscience. Following college, Dr. Nixon attended medical school at Indiana University in Indianapolis, IN where he graduated in the top tier of his class and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Dr. Nixon completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Hofstra University/Long Island Jewish Medical Center in Queens, NY.

In his spare time, he enjoys watching Hoosier athletics, spending time with family, and international travel with his wife and son.


Melissa Summers

Melissa Summers, MD, Sports Medicine fellow

Melissa Summers grew up in Crystal Lake, IL. She attended the University of Notre Dame and graduated cum laude, majoring in Biology and Sociology. She attended medical school at the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences, where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Dr. Summers completed her orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, OH, where she was the recipient of the Peter J. Stern, M.D. Chief Resident Leadership Award and the Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery Chief Resident of the Year Award.

In her spare time, Dr. Summers enjoys traveling, outdoor activities and spending time with her husband, son, and dog.
