Dr. Wilbur received his undergraduate degree in biology from Johns Hopkins University and his medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. He was a resident in family practice at the University of Iowa prior to completing training in anatomic and clinical pathology at the University of Rochester, which was followed by a fellowship in surgical pathology at Hartford Hospital.  Dr. Wilbur practiced at the University of Rochester, the University of Connecticut and Rochester General Hospital prior to joining the staff at Massachusetts General Hospital in 2001.  He served as the Director of Cytopathology prior to serving as Director of the Clinical Imaging Service since in 2011.  His active practice is in the areas of cytopathology, and gynecologic and breast surgical pathology.

Research interests include:

  • Gynecologic cytopathology with emphasis on endocervical and endometrial glandular lesions
  • Computerization in pathology, including automated screening instrumentation and telepathology
  • Translation of molecular methods to clinical practice in pathology
