Michael J. Barry, MD, of the General Internal Medicine Unit, is the new president of the Foundation for Informed Medical Decision Making. The nonprofit organization was established to ensure patients are well-informed when making decisions about their health care. Barry, who has been involved with the foundation since its inception, helped establish a partnership between it and the Stoeckle Center for Primary Care to support a decision-making pilot project in primary care practices at the MGH.
The Tay-Sachs Gene Therapy Consortium, including Florian S. Eichler, MD, of the Department of Neurology, has received a $3.5 million grant from the National Institutes of Health. The grant will support the international consortium’s work on experimental gene therapy for Tay-Sachs and Sandhoff diseases.
