At Massachusetts General Hospital, we focus on patient safety every day and with every patient encounter, but every year during National Patient Safety Awareness Week (PSAW), we pause to celebrate Patient Safety Stars—individuals and teams who have gone above and beyond to advance patient and staff safety.
Since 2010, Mass General has taken time during PSAW to honor more than 500 individuals as Patient Safety Stars. In 2021, we honored 45 individuals and 22 teams that made it their personal responsibility to make patient care safer for both patients and staff during this challenging year. The awards were presented at a virtual ceremony to kick off a week of activities designed to raise awareness of safety issues and to recognize the commitment of Mass General staff members to improving patient care.
Peter L. Slavin, MD, president of Mass General, and Elizabeth Mort, MD, senior vice president of the Center for Quality and Safety at Mass General and the Mass General Physicians Organization, joined other leaders in congratulating the awardees and celebrating their commitment to patient safety.
Individuals and teams were honored this year for a variety of initiatives, including patient equity, reducing patient harm and addressing patient and workforce safety.
