Meet the world's most advanced brain scanner

The connectome scanner at Mass General is eight times more powerful than a conventional MRI machine, producing images that are four to eight times more detailed in one-sixth of the time.

Part of the National Institutes of Health's Human Connectome Project, the scanner is currently used only for research purposes. However, according to Van J. Wedeen, MD, Director of Connectomics at the Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging at Mass General, it could someday objectively diagnose mental disorders.
