The Department of Speech, Language and Swallowing Disorders & Reading Disabilities provides comprehensive diagnostic evaluations and treatment programs for communication and swallowing disorders across the lifespan from newborns to adults.

Speech, Language and Swallowing Disorders & Reading Disabilities specializes in diagnosing and treating communication and swallowing disorders for all ages. Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) provide comprehensive services for the hospital’s acute inpatients and outpatients, and for patients at two community health centers. Every individual uses communications to develop relationships, express our innermost thoughts and feelings, think and develop ideas to solve simple or complex problems. When the ability to speak, listen, read or write is affected, daily living can be frustrating and isolating. Eating and drinking are also vital functions and an important social ritual that can be difficult and intimidating for those who are unable to swallow.
