In Memoriam

Betty Honey, a former MGH Department of Surgery employee, died April 10. She was 89. Honey served in various administrative and accounting positions within the department during her nearly 50-year career.

Honey was born in Denver, Colo., in 1921 but grew up primarily on Martha's Vineyard. She moved to Boston following World War II and worked at the MGH until her retirement, after which she returned to the Vineyard. In her spare time, Honey was an avid gardener and active church member.

"Miss Honey was truly devoted to the MGH and the MGH surgeons," says W. Gerald Austen, MD, MGH surgeon-in-chief emeritus and chairman of the Chiefs' Council. "She was always gracious and kind to everyone and was especially interested in all of the residents from the various surgical services. She made all of us feel important, and it was quite clear that the MGH was a big part of her life."

Honey was predeceased by her brother, Bill. She is survived by two nieces and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
