In General: Cambria and Kopans

Richard Cambria, MD, chief of the Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery and co-director of the Thoracic Aortic Center, was elected 2011-2012 president of the Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) on June 17 during the Vascular Annual Meeting in Chicago. Cambria is dedicated to advancing vascular health and has served the SVS in several high-level positions. The SVS is a professional medical society that seeks to advance excellence and innovation in vascular health through education, advocacy, research and public awareness.

Daniel Kopans, MD, founder of the MGH Breast Imaging Division, received a special commendation from the Society of Breast Imaging (SBI) and a standing ovation from the more than 800 attendees at its annual meeting in recognition of his dedication and leadership in mammography screening. The SBI aims to improve the practice of breast imaging and medical education and is a medium for the exchange of ideas among those involved in the specialty. The commendation acknowledges Kopans’ efforts on behalf of women to maintain their access to mammography screening, especially his advocacy for screening for women beginning at age 40.
