Procedure: Tracheal Surgery
Hometown: New HampshireIn December 2016, I was involved in a motor vehicle accident while I was on vacation visiting family members down in Miami, Florida. I was intubated for a couple weeks due to the accident. My trachea was damaged. Due to the complications I had with my trachea, I wasn't allowed to travel up to New Hampshire where I live because I was having shortness of breath. I was very limited in any physical activity.
My shortness of breath had the doctors dilating my trachea once or twice a week. After having numerous dilations of my trachea, I was referred to Dr. Mathisen by the surgeons that were handling my case. I had my surgery on July 18, 2017, my birthday. That was the best gift I could have asked for! I can breathe normally and have gone back to my normal activities. I have my life back!
Dr. Mathisen and his staff were all really nice. The last thing I remember before my surgery was laying down on the operation table and the whole staff singing happy birthday to me. They answered all my questions before and after the surgery and were always checking up on my progress and how I was feeling. My life is back to normal now and it’s all thanks to Dr. Mathisen and his staff.
