Overview November 2021

In addition to our many services at the Mass General Dermatology Laser and Cosmetic Center, we are excited to offer the latest breakthroughs in laser and cosmetic therapies.

Introducing a new skin tightening treatment, ellacor™

We believe you are only as old as you feel. But as we age, our skin may tell a different story.

When it comes to skin revitalization treatments, we also know that you want visible results, without the excessive pain and extended recovery time that may be associated with more invasive procedures. That is why we are now offering exclusive access to the new ellacor™ System with Micro-Coring™ Technology – a first-in-class device for the treatment of wrinkles that provides natural-looking results with shortened downtime.

What is ellacor™?

This FDA-approved device is a minimally invasive, first-in-category device safely and effectively removes micro-sized portions of excess skin without surgery, thermal energy or evidence of scarring.

“Cytrellis has created a new treatment option for aging skin. For some patients, we can use this technology instead of lasers or conventional surgery, allowing for faster healing time without burns or scarring," stated Rox Anderson, MD, Director of the Wellman Center for Photomedicine at MGH and Harvard Medical School Professor of Dermatology.

Based on the initial research and ingenuity of its scientific founders,  Mass General’s Dr. William Austen Jr. and Dr. Rox Anderson, Cytrellis was able to bring this technology from concept to fruition. The novel system mechanically removes full-thickness cores of skin. "It can remove as much skin as some surgical procedures without scarring," said William G. Austen, Jr. MD, Chief of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Chief of Burn Surgery at MGH in Boston, MA and Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School.

How does it work?

The breakthrough ellacor™ System uses proprietary hollow needles to precisely remove micro-cores of excess skin. After the skin is removed, the body’s natural healing response goes into effect as the skin quickly realigns to close the cores. This results in an improvement in the appearance of wrinkles without the evidence of scarring, and less downtime than many energy-based procedures.

How is the ellacor™ System different from other skin revitalization devices?

Ellacor™ removes micro-portions of excess skin to achieve an improvement in the appearance of wrinkles, whereas many other skin revitalization devices use heat generated by laser, radiofrequency and ultrasound energy to induce intentional thermal injury to the skin.

How many treatments will I need?

As every patient has different needs, we recommend you speak with your physician to determine the treatment plan that is right for you.

How long is a typical treatment?

An ellacor™ treatment typically takes about 30 minutes or less.

Is the treatment painful?

Your physician will provide you with appropriate anesthesia prior to the procedure to make you more comfortable. Most patients in the clinical trial reported pain during the procedure as less than 2 on a 0-10 scale.[

Is the recovery time long?

There is a few days recovery time following the ellacor™ procedure. Patients return to their normal activities on average three days following the treatment.1

Indication for Use:

The ellacor™ System with Micro-Coring™ Technology is indicated for use by medical professionals for the treatment of moderate to severe wrinkles in the mid to lower face in adults aged 22 years or older with Fitzpatrick skin types I-IV. As with any medical procedure, there are risks, side effects and contraindications that can be associated with the ellacor™ treatment.
