About Christopher Newton-Cheh, MD, MPH

Dr. Christopher Newton-Cheh is a heart failure cardiologist and a cardiovascular geneticist. He has an active laboratory conducting research on the root causes of heart failure, arrhythmias and hypertension.

Dr. Newton-Cheh is a cardiologist in the Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplant section caring for patients living with advanced heart failure, LVADs and transplanted hearts and in the Cardiovascular Genetics Program of the Massachusetts General Hospital Cardiology Division evaluating patients and families with cardiomyopathy. He is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Newton-Cheh is a faculty member of the Center for Genomic Medicine and the Cardiovascular Research Center.  He is a complex trait geneticist and cardiovascular epidemiologist. The Newton-Cheh laboratory is focused on the study of hypertension, arrhythmias and heart failure. They are leveraging the growth of human genetics to identify DNA sequence variants that contribute to these common diseases, to translate these genetic findings to an improved understanding of human physiology through patient-oriented research and to define the role of genetic variants, alongside other clinical risk factors, in risk prediction.

Research

Dr. Newton-Cheh is faculty member of the Center for Genomic Medicine and the Cardiovascular Research Center.  Dr. Newton-Cheh is a complex trait geneticist and cardiovascular epidemiologist. The Newton-Cheh laboratory is focused on the study of hypertension, arrhythmias and heart failure. We are leveraging the growth of human genetics to identify novel drug targets and the causes of drug toxicity and to improve prediction of cardiovascular risk in individual patients.
