This rare subtype of Clostridium bacteria is shown here with a gram stain. Gangrene caused by C. septicum is associated with immune deficiencies and colon cancers.
This sample, shown here with a fungal stain, was cultured from an aspirate of a brain abscess. Aspergillus fumigatus can cause serious infections in people with immune deficiencies.
This genus of fungi is primarily a plant pathogen, but can trigger allergic reactions in humans. For people with compromised immune systems, it can present a risk of opportunistic infection.
