Massachusetts General Hospital earns ‘A’ rating for Patient Safety in Fall 2022 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades

BOSTON - Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) has received an ‘A’ Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade for fall 2022, the non-profit Leapfrog Group announced today. This national distinction recognizes MGH’s achievements in the area of patient safety and the honor marks the fourteenth consecutive ‘A’ grade earned by the hospital since the spring of 2016 release.

“The Leapfrog safety score recognizes hospitals’ commitments to safe systems like bar code medication administration and electronic health records, as well as patient safety outcomes,” says Elizabeth Mort, MD, MPH, senior vice president for quality and safety at MGH/Mass General Physicians’ Organization (MGPO]. “Thanks to the caregivers at MGH for once again being recognized for their excellence.”   

The Leapfrog Group is an independent national watchdog organization with a 10-year history of assigning letter grades to general hospitals throughout the United States, based on a hospital’s ability to prevent medical errors and harm to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent, and free to the public. Hospital Safety Grade results are based on more than 30 national performance measures and are updated each fall and spring.
