The Latest Technologies
EngagedMD® is a new educational platform that breaks down every aspect of the testing and treatments we provide in an easy to understand format. There is a lot of information that we want you know during treatment. We have found that listening to us during your visit, then reviewing your treatment plans online at home is a productive way to ensure you receive the best care and have all the information you need.
Virtual Visit is a web-based platform, similar to Skype® or Facetime®, that allows you to have a follow-up visit with your physician. All you need to arrange a virtual medical visit if access to a smartphone, tablet or personal computer with a camera and microphone.
Success, without compromising safety, is our number one priority. Fertility Center clinicians reduce the risks associated with multiple gestations by using techniques such as:
- Embryo cryopreservation (freezing and preserving human embryos)
- Single-embryo transfer (transferring one rather than multiple fertilized embryos to the uterus)
In short, we strive to do more with less. We listen, and we engage. This means individualizing your treatment plan based on what your testing tells us and with what you feel comfortable proceeding.
What to Expect
Our offices offer patients unsurpassed privacy. We deliver all IVF and assisted reproductive technology (ART) services in one self-contained suite located on the 10th floor of the Yawkey Building for Outpatient Care, overlooking Beacon Hill. When necessary, we work closely with other Mass General specialists—including urologists, embryologists and obstetricians/gynecologists as needed—to provide the highest level of care for patients in a world-class medical center and one of the top gynecologic programs in the country.
Most patients are referred to the IVF/ART Program by their obstetrician/gynecologist or primary care physician. At your first appointment, we will review your medical history, determine what tests need to be done and start to review some of the potential treatments that may pertain to you. Follow-up visits are often done in person, but can also be done in certain situations through our “Virtual Visit” web platform, which allows you to communicate with your physician even when you cannot come in to Boston.
Throughout treatment, our patients enjoy a personal relationship with the physician in charge of their care, as well as the other Fertility Center physicians, nurses and medical assistants on their team. You can also follow your tests results, review visit notes and treatment plans and communicate your care team through Patient Gateway.
Support If You Need It
We typically offer several possible treatment approaches for each patient. We know that these treatments can cause a physical and emotional toll on your well-being and there may be costs associated with treatment that can cause an enormous burden. We offer support for you and your partner through Mass General social workers, financial services personnel, support groups and clergy.
Advancing Fertility Science
In addition to working with patients, our physician-scientists are at the forefront of clinical research. We are actively engaged in research on a variety of fertility-related fronts, including:
- The impact of environmental factors and diet on fertility and pregnancy outcomes
- How fertility treatments impact cardiac health
- The relationship between stress and reproduction
- New treatments to preserve fertility
- Using artificial intelligence in the embryology laboratory to help us determine the best embryos to transfer
- Conducting semen analysis or determining ovulation using your smartphone
The IVF/ART Program at Mass General was founded in 1992. Our specialists are members of the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology and the American Society of Reproductive Medicine.
