The Obstetrics Program at Massachusetts General Hospital includes the Midwifery Service, which comprises a staff of over 20 nurse-midwives.

Our nurse-midwives manage prenatal care, labor and delivery, and postpartum care for patients who are considered low to moderate risk. If a problem arises, the nurse-midwives consult and collaborate with our obstetricians in caring for the mother and baby.

More than one-quarter of the babies born each year at Mass General are delivered by midwives, and since 1994 they have delivered over 10,000 babies.
