About the Program

In the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Dentistry (OMFS) at Massachusetts General Hospital, the success of minimally invasive surgical techniques across multiple specialties has challenged oral and maxillofacial surgeons to develop ways in which to replace maximally invasive, open procedures with those that offer less morbidity, shorter lengths of stay and fewer post-surgical complications for the same functional and aesthetic result. Minimally invasive procedures may revolutionize the practice of oral and maxillofacial surgery. The Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Dentistry has led the specialty in describing, developing and refining minimally invasive approaches to oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Distraction osteogenesis is a minimally invasive procedure that is now available in our practice as an alternative to other modes of orthognathic surgery.
