Clinical care is integrated with, and continuously improved by, an expansive ongoing program of research that is funded by both federal (National Institutes of Health) and private foundation sources. Recent advances include the development of new lasers and drug regimens for treating laryngeal cancer and papilloma while optimizing voice outcomes, and the application of emerging technologies to assessing laryngeal function for voice production.

The center is also a site for advanced clinical training in voice surgery and therapy, as well as education in voice science. A majority of this training work is done in the Department of Surgery and in affiliation with leading academic institutions, including Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the MGH Institute of Health Professions.
