Overview

The Mass General Brigham Women’s Heart Health (WHHP) Fellowship was designed to provide focused, advanced training in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of heart disease in women. The objectives of this one-year fellowship are:

  • To provide focused and comprehensive training to cardiovascular fellows on sex-specific cardiovascular disease in women
  • To provide clinical and translational research skills to facilitate a successful career in women’s cardiovascular health
  • To develop and train leaders to advance women’s cardiovascular health

Requirements

The following is required to enter the WHHP Fellowship:

  • Completion and passing of all three United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) steps. Canadian medical school graduates are exempt if they have passed similar exams in Canada.
  • Board certified or board eligible by the American Board of Internal Medicine
  • A full Massachusetts state medical license (limited license if on visa), if accepted into the program
  • A valid Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certificate for all foreign medical graduates
  • J-1 visa for non-U.S. citizens (Please note, this is the only type of visa accepted)
  • Completion of a previous cardiology fellowship

Curriculum

The overall goal of the WHHP fellowship is to provide cardiovascular trainees with the clinical and research skill sets relevant to developing a career in this field. The fellowship attains these goals by providing the trainee with:

  • Comprehensive, hands-on clinical exposure in the inpatient and outpatient setting
  • Opportunities for rotations with maternal fetal medicine, fertility center, vascular medicine and others
  • Dedicated research mentoring
  • Participation in the educational rounds of the Mass General Brigham Cardiology division including monthly WHHP educational rounds, multidisciplinary cardio-obstetrics meetings and SCAD team meetings. The fellow will be asked to present at a WHHP CME course if occurring during their fellowship year.
  • The ability to understand the key components of developing a Women's Heart Health Program

Applications are now open for 2026-2027 academic year. We will review applications on a rolling basis through October 31, 2025. Competitive candidates will be invited to interview with faculty in mid-November 2025.
