Research Areas

Tilo Winkler, PhD, is a principal investigator at the Pulmonary Imaging and Bioengineering Laboratories (PIBL), which are part of the DACCPM research centers and units. He focuses on elucidating fundamental problems in respiratory medicine and critical care using pulmonary imaging and modeling. Positron emission tomography (PET) and computed tomography (CT) allow for novel insights into the respiratory structure and function, which Dr. Winkler's group uses for studies in a wide range of lung diseases and conditions. His most influential work in modeling characterizes the behavior of airways in the lungs during asthma attacks.
