By being just a phone call away, Amanda Tourjee, RN, triage nurse in Pediatric Neurology, can help keep patients avoid unnecessary trips to the emergency department.
I have been lucky enough to wear a lot of hats as a nurse! This has allowed me to celebrate victories with our patients, witness and be a part of life’s most intimate moments and truly feel like I am making a difference in other’s lives. I worked as a triage nurse in the Pediatric Epilepsy Program. A lot of my job is educating patients, but I would say one of my most important jobs is keeping children out of the emergency department. By being available to our patients over the phone, I can work with our team to help decrease everyday stressors, make changes to sleep schedules and gather information on patients' diets. I also adjust medications and provide families with the tools they need to help their children before they progress to the point of needing to come into the emergency department. I am privileged to be part of such a wonderful team that feels like family.
