Research

Dr. Kinane's research focuses on 3 distinct areas:

Regulation of cell migration:-
Dr. Kinane's group focuses on transduction pathways that regulate cell migration and lung development.  He has identified novel regulators of lung cell and inflammatory migration including Netrins. He found that these Netrin like molecules are critical in regulation of lung development and inflammatory responses. This research has broad implications for congenital lung malformation, blood vessel inflammation including coronary artery disease and autoimmune disease.

Regulation of the control of breathing:-
In patients with central congenital hypoventilation syndrome, his group identified one of the molecular mechanisms of this syndrome. Recently he has extended this work to the regulation of breathing in common physiological conditions.  He has recently focused his studies on airway obstruction in infants while placed in a car seat. This work has resulted in a number of highly cited manuscripts.

Pediatric interstitial lung disease:- Dr. Kinane's group works on the genetic basis, classification and treatment of interstitial disease. He has developed a genetics clinic in pulmonary to support this work.

Dr. Kinane is a kind soul and wonderful doctor who is not presumptuous or full of himself. He understands that we are all very busy and are on a tight schedule. He is open and very responsive to my son's needs and does an excellent job. The nurse was very personable and made our stay pleasant.

Dr. Kinane has always been incredibly thorough and considerate in his descriptions. I accidentally hit the one earlier in the survey when it talked about whether he explains things in a way that was understandable, and I meant to hit a four because he's always been phenomenal with that. I deeply appreciate how much he looks at my child as a whole ... Read More

Nothin much .Doctor Kinane is Amazing

August 2025

Dr. Kinane has possibly the best bedside manner of any doctor we've seen (speaking for both myself and all of my children!). He was extremely personable, respectful of me as a parent, kind and engaging with my child, took our concerns seriously, was an attentive listener, and proactive in his care. I'm really grateful to have found him.

For the past 6 years I've always had a good experience with this provider, as my son's pulmonologist.

July 2025

Dr. Kinane is a rarity when it comes to a provider. He has an excellent memory for his patients, is kind, and most importantly knowledgeable. He has a unique way to listen to and gain all of the information prior to making a clinical judgement. He then provides thorough and clear information that is easily understandable about complex topics.

Hi, yes. The provider listened to everything we had to say. My son loves him. He's very caring. And he actually just listened. And he gave me the feedback we needed to know. So he's great. We love him.

Dr Kinane is always understanding and spends time understanding what interests our boys and has built a relationship and trust with them

Dr Kinane was wonderful. He had an extremely kind and gentle way about him. We saw him about a pretty minor issue but he still made if feel important. He is clearly extremely intelligent and knowledgeable about more than his area of specialty. I would highly recommend Dr Kinane to anyone needing his services. What a delightful human being.
