Dr. Hatton graduated from Boston College with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and received his medical degree from the University of Massachusetts. He completed his internship in internal medicine at the Lahey Clinic followed by residency at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, where he was selected Chief Resident and held the positions of Associate Chief of Ophthalmology and the Director of Eye Trauma. He remained at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary to complete a fellowship in oculoplastics, orbit, and cosmetic surgery.

Dr. Hatton is board certified, and his awards include election to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, the Merck Award, and New England Ophthalmologic Society Award for best research. He has authored or co-authored more than 40 medical journal articles and text chapters and has presented research at 20 national medical meetings. He is a member of the Massachusetts Medical Society and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
