About Claudia Richter, MD

Dr. Claudia U. Richter specializes in cataract surgery as well as the medical, surgical and laser therapy of glaucoma and diseases of the anterior portion of the eye. She is a highly regarded teacher of general ophthalmology among the medical residents and students of Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Richter received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with High Honors from the University of Texas at Austin and was selected to numerous honor societies, including Phi Beta Kappa. She graduated from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and was selected to Alpha Omega Alpha. She completed an internship in internal medicine at Boston City Hospital, a residency in ophthalmology at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, and a fellowship in glaucoma at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary.

Dr. Richter joined Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston and the faculty of Harvard Medical School in 1982. She is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. She examines candidates for board certification for the American Board of Ophthalmology. She has presented scientific papers and courses both nationally and internationally. She received the Honor Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology for scientific presentations and instruction courses. She published over 60 chapters and medical journal articles. She been named as one of the best ophthalmologists in Boston by Boston Magazine and is listed in Who's Who in America.
