About Kathleen Finn, MD
Kathleen M. Finn, MD, is the Inpatient Associate Program Director (APD) for the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Massachusetts General Hospital and a member of the Inpatient Clinician Educator Service. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania and studied at University of Oxford as a Thouron Scholar where she obtained a Master of Philosophy in social anthropology. She attended Harvard Medical School and didher residency training at Brigham and Women?s Hospital (BWH). She worked for several years as an Academic Hospitalist at BWH as well as serving as Medical Director of the General Medical Service and co-Director of Harvard Medical School?s Introduction to Clinical Medicine course.
In 2007, she joined the Mass General Inpatient Clinician Educator Service where her academic and professional career has focused on medical education, administration and research. As the inpatient APD, she serves a lead administrative role in the daily functioning of the residency program. Dr. Finn teaches on the inpatient medical and consultative services. She also educates at the faculty level as co-director of the Frontline Case Conference series for Division of General Medicine faculty and as co-founder of the Boston Society of Hospital Medicine chapter.
Her clinical and research interests include medical education, inpatient transitions of care, quality improvement, and inpatient alcohol withdrawal. She has given workshops and talks at the national level, winning the David E. Rodgers SGIM award for the top three workshops in 2010. She currently leads a study of attending supervision on the inpatient service through a Stemmler Research Award from the National Board of Medical Examiners. She has an ECOTE grant to create videos for the training of faculty in feedback and direct observations. She is the recipient of major teaching awardsand was named one of the top 10 hospitalists by the American College ofPhysicians in 2014.
