Lisa Nowinski, PhD

Dr. Lisa Nowinski, Clinical Director of non-physician services at the Lurie Center for Autism and Instructor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, is a clinical neuropsychologist with more than a decade of experience diagnosing and caring for individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other neurodevelopmental disorders.

As Director of Clinical Psychology at the Lurie Center, Dr. Nowinski is responsible for all clinical psychology services and training. In addition to directing a robust assessment and therapy program, Dr. Nowinski runs a competitive postdoctoral fellowship – offering specialized training to clinical psychologists who seek to build expertise in the assessment and care of individuals with ASD.

Dr. Nowinski specializes in the diagnostic and neuropsychological assessment of individuals with autism spectrum disorder across the lifespan. Her work focuses on collaborative models of assessment that involve parents and caregivers as active partners throughout the assessment process. She has a particular clinical interest in the assessment of adolescents and young adults with ASD and other developmental disorders, and has worked to build the Lurie Center’s transition-related support services. Dr. Nowinski is also a member of the Autism Treatment Network’s Behavioral Scientist Committee where she has worked with professionals from around the country on several initiatives, including the development a Puberty Toolkit for teens and families with ASD.

Research Interests

Dr. Nowinski’s research efforts focus largely on characterizing the cognitive and behavioral phenotypes of individual’s with ASD. She is a Co-Investigator on a number of federally- and privately-funded clinical research initiatives including medication clinical trials, studies which seek to identify the biological and neurological underpinnings for autism, and several technology-based initiatives to improve the treatment and clinical care of individuals with ASD.
