About Jan Kylstra, MD

Dr. Jan Kylstra is a full-time member of the Mass. Eye and Ear Retina Service who specializes in surgical and medical management of diseases of the retina. In particular, he has expertise in the management of diabetic retinopathy, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, retinal detachments, age-related macular degeneration, non-surgical retinopathy of prematurity, and retinal infectious disease. He was named one of the Best Regional Doctors by Castle Connolly in 2014 and 2015.

Dr. Kylstra earned his medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine. After completing his Ophthalmology residency at Harvard Medical School, he served as chief resident and completed a Retina-Vitreous fellowship at Mass. Eye and Ear.

Dr. Jan Kylstra has performed clinical research related to the management of diabetic macular edema, macular holes, age related macular degeneration, ocular trauma, cytomegalovirus retinitis, and retinopathy of prematurity.  His current area of interest is the development of better screening for wet macular degeneration.
