About Tara Soumerai, MD

I am a medical oncologist focusing on the care of patients admitted to the hospital with complications from their cancer and/or cancer treatment.  I trained at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Massachusetts General Hospital for Internal Medicine Residency, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center for Medical Oncology Fellowship.  I was on staff at Memorial Sloan Kettering as part of their Gynecologic Medical Oncology service before joining the inpatient oncology team at MGH.  My research has focused on the genomic landscape of solid tumors with a focus on gynecologic malignancies and using a patient's individual tumor profile to guide treatment with targeted therapies.  I have an active role in the residency education program, teaching future internists important principles of oncology and cultivating an interest in the field for the oncologists of tomorrow. I am passionate about the care of my patients, ensuring that their hospital stay does not interfere with their overall oncologic care but rather contributes to it.  I have an interest in improving communication during hospitalization, both between a patient, their family, and the care team and between the primary outpatient oncologist and the inpatient oncology team.  I am very excited to be a part of this outstanding, patient-focused cancer center.
