Yevgeniy (“Eugene”) R. Semenov, MD, MA, FAAD is an Associate Professor of Dermatology at Harvard Medical School, Co-Director of the Oncodermatology Program at Mass General Brigham, Principal Investigator of the Dermatology Clinical Informatics Laboratory, and Investigator in the Laboratory of Systems Pharmacology at Harvard Medical School. He is a board-certified dermatologist and physician-scientist whose work integrates clinical informatics, artificial intelligence, epidemiology, and translational research to improve outcomes for patients with cancer and treatment-related skin disease.
Dr. Semenov received his bachelor's degree in Applied Mathematics & Statistics, master's degree in Applied Economics, and medical degree from Johns Hopkins University. He completed an internship in Internal Medicine at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland, followed by residency training in Dermatology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.
His clinical practice focuses on cutaneous oncology and oncodermatology, with particular expertise in melanoma and the prevention and management of cutaneous toxicities associated with cancer immunotherapy and targeted therapies. As Co-Director of the Oncodermatology Program at Mass General Brigham, he works closely with multidisciplinary oncology teams to care for patients with complex dermatologic complications of cancer treatment while advancing innovative models of supportive cancer care.
Dr. Semenov's research is dedicated to improving the prediction, prevention, and management of cancer therapy-related toxicities and melanoma outcomes through clinical informatics, artificial intelligence, epidemiology, and translational science. His laboratory develops novel approaches that integrate electronic health record data, digital pathology, medical imaging, genomics, and machine learning to advance precision medicine in oncology and dermatology. His work has helped define the epidemiology, treatment strategies, and long-term outcomes of immune-related adverse events while advancing AI-driven approaches to melanoma prognostication and clinical decision support.
He has authored more than 150 peer-reviewed publications in leading medical journals, including Nature Medicine, Nature Biotechnology, Nature Communications, Lancet Oncology, Journal of the National Cancer Institute, Journal for ImmunoTherapy of Cancer, Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, JAMA Dermatology, and NPJ Precision Oncology. His research program has received competitive funding from the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Defense, national foundations, and industry partners.
In addition to his research program, Dr. Semenov serves in numerous national leadership roles in dermatology and oncodermatology. He is Co-Chair of Research for the Oncodermatology Society, Co-Chair of Data Governance and Clinical Trials for the Alliance for Support and Prevention of Immune-Related Events (ASPIRE), the Statistics Editor for the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, and an Associate Editor of NPJ Digital Medicine and the International Journal of Dermatology. He is also deeply committed to mentorship and has trained medical students, residents, fellows, graduate students, and junior faculty pursuing careers in academic medicine.
Dr. Semenov is fluent in English and Russian. He sees patients at Mass General Brigham and the Mass General Cancer Center in Boston.
