About Jahan Mohebali, MD, MPH
Jahan Mohebali, MD, MPH, is a vascular surgeon in the Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital and the assistant program director of the Department of Surgery’s Residency Program.
Dr. Mohebali treats the full spectrum of vascular disease. He is specially trained in traditional (open) and endovascular (minimally invasive) aortic surgery and is particularly passionate about treating complex aortic disease. His interests include connective tissue disorders affecting the aorta, acute and chronic aortic dissection, and the open and endovascular repair of arch, descending thoracic, thoracoabdominal, suprarenal, juxtarenal and infrarenal aortic aneurysms.
Born and raised in Salt Lake City, UT, Dr. Mohebali came to Boston for surgical training in 2010. He completed both his general surgery residency and vascular and endovascular fellowship at Mass General and Harvard Medical School, and was offered the opportunity to stay on as a faculty member in the Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery in 2019. During his training, he also completed a master’s degree in public health with a concentration in quantitative methods at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
Dr. Mohebali’s research focuses on the operative and long-term management of aortic disease. Among his work in research and innovation, Dr. Mohebali completed a significant internal database review of renovisceral branch reconstruction outcomes during open thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm repair to serve as a benchmark as total endovascular aneurysm repair becomes more universal. Also, in collaboration with the Mass General MESH Incubator, Dr. Mohebali formed a group of engineers, business school graduate students and other scientists to develop a “smart” wire for endovascular interventions.
He is a member of a variety of surgical societies, including the American College of Surgeons and the Society for Vascular Surgery.
