About Adam Ackerman, MD

Dr. Ackerman is an acute care surgeon with expertise in trauma, emergency general surgery, and surgical critical care at the Massachusetts General Hospital and North Shore Medical Center.  He received his medical degree from the University of Vermont College of Medicine and completed his general surgery residency at Maine Medical Center in Portland, ME. He then completed a Surgical Critical Care fellowship at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI. 

Dr. Ackerman’s passion for teaching residents and medical students is recognized with numerous teaching awards. 

Prior to becoming a surgeon, Dr. Ackerman was a composer of orchestral and chamber music and holds degrees from the Berklee College of Music and New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, MA.

Dr. Ackerman’s research interests include emergency surgical and critical care issues during long duration spaceflight, management of post-traumatic stress disorder after ICU admission, and global surgery.
