About Shayna Bassett, PhD

Shayna S. Bassett, PhD is a clinical psychologist who specializes in providing substance use and co-occurring disorder treatment to underserved populations in community and correctional settings.  She is also a Massachusetts Problem Gambling Specialist.

Dr. Bassett received her doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Rhode Island and completed her predoctoral internship in outpatient treatment at the Bedford VA Medical Center.  She completed her postdoctoral fellowship in substance use disorder treatment through the Alpert Medical School of Brown University and the Providence VA Medical Center.

Research

Dr. Bassett's research is focused on identifying, implementing, and disseminating effective substance use and behavioral interventions, particularly as they relate to low-income, underserved, and legally-involved populations.  Additionally, she is interested in how systemic factors, policy issues and community conditions impact individuals, influence treatment outcomes, and affect health disparities.  Dr. Bassett has served as the clinical supervisor for NIH-funded randomized controlled treatment studies and works closely with a variety of interdisciplinary professionals to facilitate the implementation and dissemination of evidence-based practices for addressing substance use and co-occurring disorders.
