About Becky Aures, MD

Becky Aures is a pediatric critical care physician in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) at Mass General for Children.  Her clinical focus includes the care of critically ill children of all types as well as a specific interest in communication between medical providers and patients and families, particularly around difficult decisions and giving bad news.  In addition to her clinical time, Becky is also on the Family Advisory Council, working to promote the partnership between families and staff at MGfC during their childrens stays, and acts as a Parental Wellness Advocate, supporting MGH faculty who are new parents to build community and foster both personal wellness and professional productivity.

Becky grew up in rural Massachusetts where her father was a family doctor.  She attended Swarthmore College, double majoring in Biology and Sociology/Anthropology.  She went on to University of Connecticut for medical school and stayed on for her pediatric residency.  During residency she became interested in pediatric bioethics and completed a pediatric bioethics certificate through Children’s Mercy, the first pediatric bioethics certificate program in the world.  After residency she returned to Massachusetts where she completed her pediatric critical care fellowship at Mass General for Children.  After fellowship she stayed on as faculty, dividing her time between the pediatric ICU at Mass General and the pediatric emergency department at Salem Hospital on the Northshore.  Becky currently lives in Marblehead with her husband, two toddlers, both born during her fellowship, and their two dogs.  She is active in the Northshore community supporting multiple initiatives to improve pediatric wellness.
