About Paul Furlow, MD, PhD

Dr. Furlow is a full-time faculty member at Harvard Medical School, the director of the Mass General Lung Metastasis Research Laboratory within the Thoracic Surgery Research Labs headed by Dr. Yolonda Colson, and a Center for Precision Cancer Medicine fellow at the Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His clinical interests include surgical management of benign and malignant diseases of the lungs, airway, pleura, chest wall, and mediastinum. Dr. Furlow has a particular interest in minimally invasive thoracic surgery. He currently cares for patients at Mass General, Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, and Salem Hospital.

Dr. Furlow is an early-career thoracic surgeon-scientist whose observations in the operating room translate to his work characterizing the molecular mechanisms that drive lung cancer progression, metastasis, and post-resection recurrence. In close collaboration with Dr. Michael Yaffe’s lab at the Koch Institute, Dr. Furlow studies bidirectional signaling between lung cancer cells and the tumor immune microenvironment, with the goal of developing novel treatments for lung cancer.
