About Cheryl Yunn Shee Foo, PhD

Dr. Cheryl Foo is an Instructor in Psychology at Harvard Medical School and clinical psychologist at Massachusetts General Hospital. She is a clinician-researcher and serves as the Associate Director of the MGH Center of Excellence for Psychosocial and Systemic Research and Director of Family Services at the MGH First Episode and Early Psychosis Program. Her clinical expertise is in providing cognitive behavioral therapies and family interventions as part of coordinated specialty care for early psychosis, an evidence-based comprehensive treatment program. She also conducts implementation-focused research to improve care for people with psychosis across all stages of illness by making evidence-based treatments more accessible and adopted in clinical and community care settings. Her ongoing research is invested in developing and evaluating innovative approaches to bridge treatment gaps in serious mental illness, such as training non-clinicians and community health workers to deliver preventive/psychosocial interventions in the community, facilitating shared decision making for underutilized pharmacotherapies, and improving treatment engagement during early intervention.

Prior to joining faculty, Dr. Foo earned her B.A. Hons. in Psychological and Behavioral Sciences from University of Cambridge, United Kingdom, and her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Columbia University. She completed her pre-doctoral fellowship at Massachusetts Mental Health Center/Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and post-doctoral fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital, where she furthered specialized training in evidence-based interventions for early psychosis and serious mental illness.
