About Daniel Pomerantz, MD

I am a physician scientist & educator with clinical training in pediatrics, medical genetics, and biochemical genetics. My clinical emphasis is focused on diagnosing and managing adult and pediatric inborn errors of metabolism. My research training is in functional glycobiology, molecular bacteriology, and molecular neuroscience, with an extensive background in understanding the role of mucin O-glycosylation in host inflammatory regulation of the colonic microbiome.

I am interested in studying the interactions between the gut microbiome and metabolic regulation in inborn errors of metabolism, with special emphasis clinical, translational and basic science emphasis on congenital disorders of glycosylation, very early onset inflammatory bowel disease (VEO-IBD), mitochondrial disorders and organic acidurias, in order to learn more about disease pathophysiology and potentially identify novel therapeutic targets or biomarkers of disease. I also hope to apply clinical expertise in inborn errors of metabolism to provide a model to understand more about how the human gut microbiome regulates the gut-brain axis at the cellular and organismal level. I also aspire to advance pediatric, medical genetic, and biochemical genetics education to empower and encourage the next generation of aspiring physicians.

I am committed to a career as a physician scientist & educator, using my experience in each area to enhance the clinical care of my patients with biochemical genetic disorders and inspire my research
