Research Summary

Research Areas

  • Vitamin D and immune regulation in acute stress
  • Epidemiology of hospital-acquired infections
  • Perioperative genomics and risk stratification

Description of Research

My research broadly focuses on identifying risk factors for suboptimal perioperative outcomes and on promoting cost-effective solutions to improve the care of surgical patients. Currently, my team is interested in the immunomodulatory effect of vitamin D, its perioperative implications, and its potential impact on critically ill patients. Moreover, our work in the area ofperioperative genomics not only involves the study of mutations in the vitamin D receptor gene, but also other targets, which may suggest a higher risk of undesirable outcomes in the perioperative setting
