Dr. Aneesh B. Singhal is Vice-Chair Quality-Safety for the Neurology Department. He is a Board Certified Neurologist, Vascular Neurologist and Neurosonologist, and Directs our Stroke/Neuro-ICU Observership Program. He is on the Board of Trustees of Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital and the Partners Continuing Care Network.

Dr. Singhal's key research interests are in acute stroke treatment, advanced stroke imaging, and stroke in young adults including reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndrome (RCVS).

Dr. Singhal has conducted animal and human studies investigating the potential of normobaric oxygen (NBO) as an adjunctive therapy for acute ischemic stroke and migraine. He is deputy PI of the New England Regional Coordinating Center for NIH StrokeNet. He conducts studies aimed at developing new stroke imaging techniques, several trials for stroke prevention, and understanding stroke mechanisms. In addition to his academic responsibilities, he reviews grants for the NIH and conducts journal manuscript reviews. He co-directs the Clinical Trials module of the Harvard Medical School (HMS) Masters in Medical Sciences in Clinical Investigation program, and teaches in the HMS Global Clinical Scholars Research Training Program.

Dr. Singhal, born in Mumbai, India, brings a key strength to the department. His interest in promoting stroke care at the international level, and his strong relationship with key investigators in India, China, Brazil and other countries, has proved to be successful in standardizing stroke care in several countries.  He is past President of the Association of Indian Neurologists in America, International Advisor to the Indian Stroke Association, and Advisor to Partners International. As director of our observership program, Dr. Singhal has accepted observers from 38 countries, most of who are now leading their own stroke units in their home countries.
