Dr. Saddawi-Konefka completed his residency at MGH, and then stayed on to complete an Anesthesia Fellowship in Critical Care Medicine.  He served as Chief Resident for the Residency Program and as Chief Fellow for the Critical Care Fellowship Program.

Dr. Saddawi-Konefka brings extensive formal education in business, biomedical engineering, economics, medicine and research.  He completed 2 undergraduate degrees at Northwestern University in biomedical engineering and economics (Magna Cum Laude, With Honors); then completed a medical degree and an MBA in business administration at the University of Michigan (High Distinction).  Prior to his medical career, Dan spent time as a consultant with McKinsey, working on a wide variety of management and strategy projects.  He is currently completing a 2-year medical education research fellowship at Harvard Medical School Academy.

Most relevant to his program director role is his track record in the educational world.  He has been building his career and research efforts around medical education since he was in medical school.  He has received teaching awards from Harvard and Partners.  He has conducted medical education research and has successfully published numerous papers including “The Impact of Interactive, Computerized Educational Modules on Preclinical Medical Education” for which he received funding from the University of Michigan.  More recently, he was awarded the Education & Teaching Pilot Project Award from ECOTE (Executive Committee on Teaching and Education at MGH), “Using Cognitive Psychology to Increase Learning:  A Prospective Randomized Controlled Trial”, a project aimed at understanding and improving the learning habits of our residents.
