Research

My laboratory is focused on decreasing the global burden of mucosal and enteric infections of import affecting resource-limited and marginalized populations.  I work in a multi center collaborative effort with investigators at the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b),Partners In Health, and MGH-Harvard that has been focused on broadening our understanding of host-pathogen and immune responses during human infection by V. cholerae (the cause of cholera) and Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi (the primary causes of enteric fever).  Together, these organisms infect over 25 million individuals and kills over 300,000 individuals each year.  Work in my laboratory has:

  1. included application of high-throughput proteomic and genomic platform technologies to identify immunogenic antigens for vaccine and diagnostic development and
  2. characterization of immune responses during human infection and vaccination with enteric infections
