What Is Lyme Disease?
Lyme disease is a bacterial infection transmitted through the bite of infected black-legged ticks. It is caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi and most prevalent in the upper Midwest and northeastern mid Atlantic parts of the U.S. Lyme disease is the most common tickborne disease in the United States.
Symptoms of Lyme Disease
Symptoms of Lyme disease can vary from person to person but commonly include fever, headache, fatigue, and a characteristic skin rash known as erythema migrans. Untreated Lyme disease can lead to a range of symptoms such as joint pain, neurological problems, and heart complications.
Treatment for Lyme Disease
Early diagnosis and treatment with antibiotics are essential for managing Lyme disease effectively. Treatment plans may vary depending on the stage of the disease and the severity of symptoms. Antibiotics are typically prescribed to eliminate the bacteria and alleviate symptoms.
