Massachusetts General Hospital Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) is the recipient of a Service Excellence Award based on patient experience survey results from 2016. The team was presented with this award in July 2017. The department won the award for the Overall Highest Achievement in Ambulatory Surgery. This award is based on ratings from patients and their families.

OMFS is a comprehensive team that helps patients improve function, appearance and health through treatment of diseases, conditions, and anomalies of the face and jaw. The team is made up of board-certified surgeons who practice broad scope oral/maxillofacial procedures including:

  • Corrective jaw surgery
  • Minimally invasive techniques for treatments of tumors, salivary stones and reconstructive surgery
  • Dental implants, wisdom teeth removal and temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJ) treatments

OMFS and the Mass General Dental Group were also featured in Boston magazine's "Top Dental Experts" August 2017 issue. The Dental Group is a hospital-based practice containing multiple dental specialties with locations in Boston and Danvers. The group cares for patients of all ages and provides preventative, therapeutic and restorative dental care.

The Department of OMFS and Dental Group serve as teachers and mentors to the next generation of oral and maxillofacial surgeons and dentists. Physicians hold faculty appointments at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine and are leaders in their field. Both departments are committed to patient care, research, education and community service.
