Mark D. Price, MD, PhD provides patients with the highest level and quality of care, using all of the latest techniques and available research, in an effort to restore their function and alleviate their pain.
Dr. Price specializes in sports medicine knee and shoulder surgery. Before Mass General, Dr. Price was at the UMass Medical School and UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester where he helped establish one of New England's busiest comprehensive shoulder programs. He performs arthroscopic surgery of the knee and shoulder, as well as total shoulder replacement and complex shoulder reconstructions.
Dr. Price earned his MD from Harvard Medical School and PhD in Medical Physics from MIT. He completed the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Residency Program where he was the Administrative Chief Resident at Mass General and he won both resident and faculty teaching awards. He completed a fellowship in sports medicine and shoulder reconstructive surgery at Mass General. He was awarded the Herodicus Society traveling fellowship and studied throwing injuries with Dr. Jim Andrews at the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, AL, and Dr. David Altchek at the Hospital for Special Surgery in NY.
Dr. Price is Head Team Physician and Medical Director for the New England Patriots and a Team Physician for the Boston Red Sox. He is a Captain in the US Navy Reserves and has served in combat operations in Afghanistan, where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service. He is board certified in orthopedic surgery with a subspecialty certification in Orthopedic Sports Medicine. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery, and a member of American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy Association of North America, Society of Military Orthopedic Surgeons, American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons, and New England Shoulder and Elbow Society.

Dr. Price has a large research effort dedicated to better understand the impact of various sports related injuries (shoulder, knee, hamstring, concussion, etc.) on patient health and well being. He uses these insights to better serve his patients in the clinic and operating room. He has published and lectured extensively on these findings.
