Research Summary

We are just beginning to understand the extent to which long noncoding RNAs regulate human development and disease.  My laboratory focuses on understanding how long noncoding RNAs regulate embryonic stem cell differentiation and how they regulate the development of liver fibrosis.  We use a combined approach of genomics, genetics, and biochemistry to understand how long noncoding RNAs regulate the earliest stages in differentiation towards the gastrointestinal system and how long noncoding RNAs regulate the function of hepatic stellate cells, the primary cell type responsible for liver fibrosis.
