Alcohol-related harms in the United States have increased over the past decade, dramatically during the pandemic. Unhealthy alcohol use, including excessive alcohol use and alcohol use disorders, has significantly increased in all gender, racial/ethnic, and age groups. Alcohol-related healthcare utilization and deaths, including alcohol-associated liver disease, have exploded over the past decade, specifically driven by alcohol use disorders. In this talk, the shifting landscape of alcohol use disorders, its societal impact, and treatment strategies will be explored and discussed.
