Gout is an especially painful cause of arthritis that can involve most of the joints in the body. Caused by buildup of urate crystals in and around joints, gout is frequently associated with other common medical conditions such as diabetes and chronic kidney disease. While the pain can be debilitating, gout is highly treatable with medications and lifestyle changes. In this Massachusetts General Hospital Blum Center presentation from June 16, 2021, Dr. Guy Katz discusses what can be done to treat and prevent this painful arthritis.
