About Michael Thiim, MD

Michael Thiim received his BA at Ithaca College and MD from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine, a fellowship in Gastroenterology at St. Luke’s Hospital in New York City and a second fellowship in Hepatology at The Mount Sinai Medical Center, also in New York City.

Dr. Thiim was a member of the Senior Staff at Lahey Clinic where he served as the Medical Director of the Liver Center and as the Gastroenterology Fellowship Co-Director before joining the faculty of the Harvard Medical School and the MGH Gastrointestinal Unit in 1999. He has more than 25 years experience treating patients with liver conditions including cirrhosis, complications of liver failure, autoimmune liver diseases and viral liver diseases. He is an active member of the Mass General liver transplant program. Part of his practice is also devoted to general gastroenterology and endoscopy.

Dr. Thiim is actively engaged in medical education and he works with the MGH Internal Medicine Residency program as the Gastroenterology and Hepatology subspecialty education coordinator. Within the MGH Gastroenterology unit he teaches GI and Transplant Liver fellows in both the Gastroenterology and in the Liver Transplant Fellowship programs.
