Pediatric Cardiology expands services with four new providers
As of March 2019, Pediatric Cardiology at Mass General for Children (MGfC) welcomed four new providers to the team. In doing so, care services have been expanded from the main campus in Boston to MassGeneral for Children at Fitchburg and MassGeneral for Children at the Spaulding Center for Children in Sandwich. Services will also expand to Foxborough upon renovations of MGfC’s space at the Brigham and Women’s/Mass General Health Care Center.
The providers include Lars Erickson, MD, Phyllis Pollack, MD, Lorraine Schratz, MD, and M. Victoria Tantengco, MD.
“We are so excited to welcome these providers to Pediatric Cardiology and to expand our services to patients and families who need them,” said Oscar Benavidez, MD, MPP, chief of Pediatric Cardiology at MGfC. “This was a wonderful expansion of skills as well because three out of four new providers can do fetal [echocardiograms], especially on Cape Cod where this services previously was not available.”
For patients diagnosed with congenital heart disease, the additional providers also ensure a smooth continuity of care from pediatric to adult medicine and the opportunity for a lifelong partnership with patients and families.
In addition to the four providers, MGfC has also welcomed seven other pediatric cardiology professionals, including sonographers Heather Luce and Julie Dufour; licensed vocational nurses and patient service coordinators Mary Ann Reed-Cook, LPN, and Tara Brock, LPN; patient service coordinator Rosemarie Boyd; administrative coordinator Nicole Cross; and nurse practitioner Nancy Hagberg, NP.
Lars Erickson, MD, earned his medical degree from Duke University. He completed his residency at the University of California at San Francisco and a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at Boston Children’s Hospital. Following three years of active duty during the Gulf War, he returned to Boston and continued to practice medicine. He has particular clinical interest in congenital heart disease, outpatient pediatric cardiology and public health issues. Erickson sees patients at MassGeneral for Children at Worcester.
Phyllis Pollack, MD
Phyllis Pollack, MD, attended Harvard Medical School before completing her residency at Children’s Hospital Seattle and a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at Boston Children’s Hospital. She has clinical interests in heart disease, neonatal cardiology and pediatric and fetal echocardiography.
“I am pleased to join Pediatric Cardiology at MGfC to collaborate on the care of our patients in central Massachusetts, where I have practiced for 35 years with heart disease from early childhood to the adult years,” said Pollack, who sees patients at MassGeneral for Children at Worcester.
Lorraine Schratz, MD, earned her medical degree from Albany Medical College in Albany, NY, and completed her residency and a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. She cares for patients in ambulatory (outpatient) cardiology settings and has clinical interests in fetal and pediatric echocardiography, preventive cardiology and patient advocacy at the local, state and federal levels.
“I am looking forward to bringing the resources of MGfC to the community, particularly in Cape Cod, to improve the cardiovascular health of all children, especially those with congenital heart disease,” said Schratz. “I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues in Boston on this new venture.” Schratz sees patients at Mass General for Children in Boston and MassGeneral for Children at Worcester and Sandwich.
M. Victoria (Vicky) Tantengco, MD
M. Victoria (Vicky) Tantengco, MD, attended the University of the Philippines College of Medicine in Manila, Philippines before coming to Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin for residency. Tantengco finished a two-year post-doctoral adult cardiology fellowship and a pediatric cardiology fellowship at Vanderbilt University and a fourth-year pediatric cardiology echocardiography fellowship at Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis, Ind. Her clinic interests include congenital and acquired heart disease in infants through young adulthood, cardiomyopathy, and pediatric and fetal echocardiography. Tantengco sees patients at MGfC in Boston and MassGeneral for Children in Fitchburg and Worcester.
