Massachusetts General Hospital's Concierge Medicine practice provides participants convenient access to world-class, comprehensive primary care in downtown Boston. Below you’ll find the answers to some frequently asked questions.

What is Concierge Medicine?

The Concierge Medicine practice at Massachusetts General Hospital provides members with an exceptionally high level of service from their Mass General primary care physician. This includes 24/7 access, preventive care, health screenings, a plan for wellness, nutrition and fitness, and coordination of advanced care across the hospital, if needed. Because they see fewer patients every day than a traditional primary care doctor, concierge physicians have more time to dedicate to each individual.

What can I expect during my visit with Concierge Medicine?

During your visit with your Concierge Medicine primary care physician, you can expect to receive a comprehensive exam and health screening, and a detailed discussion with your doctor on preventive care, wellness, nutrition and fitness. You may also receive referrals to specialists if needed. Concierge Medicine is uniquely positioned as a part of one of the nation’s premiere hospitals, enabling physicians to coordinate care seamlessly across a variety of specialties.

Our Concierge Medicine staff will work with you to schedule a convenient appointment time. Physicians will be available to patients via phone or email 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Do I need to leave the primary care physician practice that I use now?

Yes, the concierge doctor would become your primary care physician. Most insurance carriers require you to identify only one primary care physician.

Can I see a specialist?

Yes, if you have a need to see a specialist, your physician and the Concierge Medicine staff will help you identify the most appropriate specialist, provide a referral and help facilitate scheduling.

Do I need to maintain insurance?

Yes, the membership fee covers an exceptionally high level of service, access to your Mass General primary care physician 24 hours a day/7 days a week, coordination of specialist care as needed and state of the art facilities. It does not cover the cost of the medical care delivered to you. Your insurance plan will cover the medical services that are provided by the concierge doctor.

Is there a copay?

That depends on your insurance. As a Concierge Medicine patient, you are required to carry your own insurance coverage and be responsible for whatever copay or deductible your insurance requires. The annual $10,000 membership fee is in addition to your insurance.

Does Concierge Medicine take Medicare as an insurance provider?

Yes.

Can I use my Flexible Spending Account (FSA) to cover the membership fee?

No. Flexible Spending Accounts only cover costs directly related to a qualified medical service that has been provided. The membership fee covers an exceptionally high level of personal customer service, access to your Mass General primary care physician 24 hours a day/7 days a week, coordination of specialist care as needed and state of the art facilities, so is not eligible. Medical services provided by your concierge doctor or Mass General specialists can be paid for from your FSA account.

When is the membership fee due?

The annual membership fee of $10,000 is due when you sign an agreement with Mass General Concierge Medicine and choose a new primary care physician that is part of the practice. The agreement and fee can be renewed annually.
