Cleft Lip and Cleft Palate
Cleft lip and cleft palate are birth abnormalities of the mouth and lip. Cleft palate occurs when the roof of the mouth does not completely close, leaving an opening that can extend into the nasal cavity. left lip is an abnormality in which the lip does not completely form during fetal development.
The Cleft and Craniofacial Center is a collaboration between Shriners Hospitals for Children and MGHfC to provide comprehensive, multidisciplinary care to children born with a cleft lip, cleft palate or other craniofacial anomalies.
We specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of the full range of oral and cranio-maxillofacial abnormalities including problems of the teeth, jaws, facial bones, temporomandibular joints and salivary glands.
Our otolaryngology services are provided by Massachusetts Eye and Ear and offer medical and surgical management of conditions related to the ear, nose, sinuses, throat, neck and airway.
