About Stephanie Eisenstat, MD

Dr. Stephanie Eisenstat is a practicing internist and medical educator in the Department of Medicine, Division of General Internal Medicine, Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Assistant Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School (HMS).

Based in Women's Health Associates (WHA) at MGH, she is a national expert in Women's Health medicine, with a specialty in women's health, diabetes in women, medical problems of pregnancy, and injury prevention. She has been integral to establishing women's health as an academic discipline and has contributed to the field through development of service programs, publication, training programs for medical clinicians both locally and nationally, patient education and program outcomes evaluation.

She is Co-Director of the MGH Diabetes Care Collaborative, a collaborative initiative between primary care and the MGH Diabetes Center, to implement an evidence based multidisciplinary team care model for diabetes care. She directs the Shared Medical Care initiative at MGH, integrating a group approach into the delivery of medical care (group medical visits). She leads a study looking at the relationship between collaborative care and unit performance.

She has developed multiple courses for all levels of physician training and practicing clinicians including primary care training for OBGYN residency program, hospital wide training for safety and injury prevention, the first HMS medical student course on trauma and injury prevention and a multi-institution HMS diabetes ambulatory sub-internship for 4th year medical students.

She is author of numerous books in Women's Health, for both patients and medical clinicians including The Primary Care of Women, The Harvard Guide to Women's Health, and Every Woman's Guide to Diabetes. She has also published a number of guidebooks, including Putting Group Visits into Practice.
